One of the biggest challenges I find, with whatever I’m doing to earn money, is the constant conflict between my home persona and my working persona.
When I work at a job, which includes anything for a client be it an employer or a customer, I focus on the job at hand and offer the best service I can in a direct and professional manner. I put aside my own needs and focus on the needs of the client.
I have a mask I wear when I’m working, which is quite an issue because increasingly I’m finding I can’t sustain that mask for long periods of time.
At home I’m far more relaxed and easygoing. Too much so at times. The focus becomes more on having fun and enjoying myself and I’m far more likely to let things slide.
The impetus for creating this business is to shed the mask and do something I really enjoy to make money. To really be me, all the time.
That’s all well and good but the home persona, or me when I’m enjoying myself, is not real good at getting things done. She’s kind of a goof off really, preferring to have fun rather than do something that’s challenging or out of her comfort zone.
To succeed here I need to integrate the two personalities. I need to be me as I really am – confident and professional; relaxed and fun.
For me that means I must actively be taking steps toward reaching my goal, however enjoying the process is as important as the destination.
So … am I having fun yet?
