This interesting video came up yesterday, courtesy of Bob Proctor and 6 Minutes To Success of course. The Science Of Getting Rich states pick a goal and define it specifically. Really specific, as in “I’m so happy and grateful that I’ve earned $25,000 from my online business by 30/9/2011” specific. Then make a plan for how you’re going to achieve that and get on with it.
The law of attraction states to bring what we want into our life, our only task is to ask for what we want, visualise it as if it were already here and then take action as prompted. The Universe, God, however you want to think of it, will work out the how of delivering the longed for item. To focus on the how is to limit possibilities.
The issue is how do the two ideas square up together, since on the surface they seem totally contradictory. I’d love to say I asked this thoughtful question but sadly I’m the one in the crowd standing there going “…oh yeah” when it’s pointed out to me. But now that it has, yeah, it is kind of strange. Which is it.
Bob, the guru, says both.
Visualising and seeing your goal as if it were here is a vital part of success. You’re training your mind to have the thing that it is you desire. You’re also building motivation to go after it.
And that’s the point of planning and one of the big drawbacks to The Secret. Visualising and belief are only the mindset part of the equation. If you don’t take action nothing is going to happen. You will stay in exactly the same place; you’ll be happier certainly but unless you take action then movement is not possible.
Which is the point of making a plan. It’s to get you, me, moving. OK, we’re visualising the end result, where we want to end up. Now lets take steps to get there, and those steps are the plan.
The plan may or may not work. Because we have no control over how our desire is delivered to us. The plan’s purpose is to make us move, to accumulate actions to take us forward. We can only plan for the forward part we can see. If we move forward though we’ll be in a different place and can see different things.
And then, change the plan! The plan is fluid and moves. The goal is the goal is the goal. It is where we want to be.
For me, this is good news. I make my statement “I’m so happy and grateful that I’ve earned $25,000 from my online business by 30/9/2011” and I don’t feel any belief in that. I mean how? How do I do that? No idea. None what so ever.
I do know what that will mean to me though. It will give me options. It will mean that I can quit my full-time job and focus on doing what I really love with is helping people and writing. It’s a step toward my larger goals of a relaxing, fulfilling life including travelling the world having fabulous experiences, all whilst still making tons of money and having plenty of time to write.
My plan to achieve is to create a successful online business. The $25,000 is a milestone and that I’ve even broken it down into sub-plans if you like. But they’re all just plans. At the end of the day I will be free, somehow, someway and however that happens, yay.
So the moral is; keep the goal, change the plan.
