One of the things that really bothers me when I’m reading is the constant need to validate a persons position based on stereotyping.
I was reading a piece about Feminist Housewives on Jezebel, and some women declaring that she made the decision to be a stay at home mother and backed it up with stereotypes about how women are just better at housework, childrearing and stuff, how we’re trained to be housewives from the get go and blah blah blah.
It annoys the crap out of me.
Why can’t she just say, “this is the choice I’ve made that works for me.” Why does it seem so hard for people to own their decisions without the need to back it up with some lame, socially constructed stereotype?
I’ve just read the rest of the article I was reading and pretty much the writer makes the same comparisons I do. So this post not so relevant, and yay Jezebel, you’re speaking my language.
